This article describes the exhibition of a colossal 11,000-carat raw emerald, hailed by its owners as potentially the world’s largest. Extracted in Colombia over a decade ago, the “priceless” stone is now on public display in Bogotá.

A giant raw emerald, weighing 11,000 carats and five pounds… it’s unimaginable on a lady’s finger. Yet, this precious stone exists. According to its owners, it would be “the largest in the world.” It is being exhibited in Bogotá for the first time since its extraction twelve years ago from the Colombian Muzo mine.
The emerald, of an intense opaque green, was found in east-central Colombia. It has been named “Fura,” in homage to a beautiful indigenous woman who is said to have lived in the region.
