Major Discovery at Cullinan Mine

A 121-carat large diamond has been discovered in South Africa.
According to reports by the Financial Times and others, Petra Diamonds announced that a 121.26-carat white diamond was discovered at the Cullinan Mine in South Africa yesterday (local time).

“The diamond is free of nitrogen impurities and is of top quality in terms of color and clarity,” the company explained.

Petra Diamonds plans to put this diamond up for auction in June.

Historic Mine of Large Stones

The Cullinan Mine is known for yielding many large and rare rough diamonds. In 1905, a 3,105-carat rough diamond was found there, which was later used to adorn the British Queen’s crown. Furthermore, rare blue diamonds exceeding 20 carats were discovered consecutively in 2013 and 2014.
