Leadership Change at Baselworld

Michel Loris-Melikoff will become the new Managing Director of the watch and jewelry trade fair Baselworld. The 53-year-old lawyer succeeds Sylvie Ritter, who is leaving the MCH Group at her own request. The handover in the leadership of Baselworld will take place on July 1, according to a statement.

Loris-Melikoff, who joined the MCH Group three years ago and is the Managing Director of MCH Beaulieu Lausanne SA, began his professional career in private banking before entering the event business 20 years ago. After six years as President of the Street Parade Zürich, he took over the management of an event agency that conceived and implemented events for international sports federations, public bodies, and private companies on a national and international level. He then took over the management of the St. Jakobshalle in Basel before moving to the MCH Group.

Sylvie Ritter’s Departure

Sylvie Ritter, Managing Director of Baselworld, has decided to step down from leading the world’s leading watch and jewelry trade fair.

“After 26 years of working for the MCH Group – 15 of which as Managing Director of Baselworld – the optimal time has come for me to start something new and take on new challenges,” Ritter is quoted as saying.
Innovations for Baselworld 2019
“We will set new accents to position Baselworld as the world’s leading marketing and communication platform for the industry. We are tackling this task with many new ideas and valuable input from exhibitors, visitors, and the media,” Loris-Melikoff is quoted as saying.

It is already certain that Baselworld 2019 will have a full day open exclusively for media representatives. The trade fair newspaper “Baselworld Daily News” will return with a new concept and in print form. In parallel, the digital information and communication offerings introduced in 2018 will be intensified and supplemented with new services for exhibitors, visitors, and the media.
