This article reports on the discovery of a remarkable 5,655-carat emerald rough in Zambia, announced by Gemfields in late October. The find highlights the ongoing potential for significant gemstone discoveries in the region.

A 5655-carat emerald rough stone was discovered in a mine in Zambia, southern Africa, in October. It weighs 1.1 kilograms. The British gemstone company Gemfields announced the find on October 29.
According to the company, it was found by their geologists and miners at the Kagem mine, which they own, on October 2. It is characterized by exceptional clarity and a beautiful green color.
The emerald has been named “Inkalamu,” which means “lion” in a local language.
This is reportedly the second-largest emerald rough stone mined from the company’s mines, following one named “Elephant” in the local language in 2010.
