This article details the recent sale of a unique diamond ring at Sotheby’s, highlighting both its record-breaking auction price and its significance as a designer collaboration.

A diamond ring carved from a single rough stone was sold for $256,000 (approximately 290 million KRW) at a Sotheby’s auction on the 5th (local time).
According to CNN, the diamond ring, a collaboration between Jony Ive and Marc Newson, was sold for $256,000 at the Sotheby’s auction held in Miami, USA. The ring is a joint creation by Ive, Apple’s former Chief Design Officer who designed the iPhone, iPod, and iPad, and Newson, a world-renowned industrial designer of Australian origin who was recruited by Apple in 2014.
Reportedly inspired by the Apple MacBook, the ring was carved from a single rough stone without a traditional metal band and consists of 2000 to 3000 facets.
Ive donated the auction proceeds from the ring to (RED), a charity founded by singer Bono and activist Bobby Shriver to fight HIV/AIDS.
Meanwhile, last month at a Christie’s auction in Geneva, Switzerland, an 18.96-carat pink diamond was sold for $50 million (approximately 56 billion KRW), setting a record for the highest price per carat ever for a diamond.
