This article introduces the role of a blockchain development engineer, highlighting their work in integrating blockchain with other technologies to enhance security and traceability. It features insights from Marta Vallés, co-founder of Vottun, a startup specializing in blockchain-based solutions.

Marta Vallés is the co-founder of Vottun, a startup that provides data traceability and certification solutions using blockchain technology.
The blockchain development engineer is the technical professional responsible for researching the development of various applications and software using this technology. These professionals will investigate the ability to implement blockchain alongside other technologies to improve the security and traceability of applications without disrupting the operation of the rest of the system.
This new profile will also be responsible for researching the adaptations the technology must undergo when integrated into different devices, such as mobile phones or wearables. Furthermore, they will apply innovations to the cryptocurrency sector, which can be utilized by companies.
Elena Ibáñez, founder of Singularity Expert, believes that blockchain will be one of the main technological trends in the coming years. More and more companies and individuals are interested in this technology and its implementation, which will increase the demand for engineers specialized in technological research to drive blockchain applications.
Data from Grand View Research reveals that the blockchain market will exceed $7 billion in 2024, with an annual growth of 69%. Additionally, educational and research institutions such as Stanford University or MIT have already created research bodies dedicated exclusively to blockchain. IBM has created its own blockchain studies and research center, and countries like South Korea encourage research in this technology by reducing taxes for companies that invest in blockchain innovation and research.
adds Ibáñez.
Marta Vallés is the co-founder of Vottun, a startup that offers data traceability and certification solutions using blockchain technology. Her company has developed traceability projects in food; supply chain control for the traceability of works of art or jewelry; professional certifications for compliance or training and educational certifications.
explains Vallés regarding the difficulty of finding suitable professionals for this blockchain development engineer profile, even needing to search outside of Spain.
Marta Vallés explains that Vottun hires full stack developers, CPOs, project managers, and back-end and front-end developers, and points out that all of them are also hard to find. She adds that
The co-founder of Vottun also refers to the profile of a computer engineer with experience as a full stack and knowledge of blockchain: these are experts dedicated to setting up the server structure to create node networks. They are experts in specific programming languages and in the cryptography related to data entry. They know how the networks that must be joined together to replicate that data work. They have not had experience in companies and it is necessary to train them in blockchain.
