This article highlights Tracemark, a Spanish startup using encrypted software and external audits to ensure the traceability of jewelry and diamonds. It’s part of our ongoing coverage of innovative approaches to ethical sourcing and responsible business practices.

The Spanish startup Tracemark, launched by Berta Serret last year, works with external auditors to guarantee the traceability of jewelry and diamonds through its own encrypted software.
Tracemark, a company passed from generation to generation. The Spanish startup, which certifies responsible practices in the jewelry and diamond sector through its Transparent Tracking System (TTS) platform, expects to have seven partner brands and exceed a turnover of 100,000 euros by the end of 2021, according to Berta Serret, CEO and founder of the startup, speaking to Modaes.es.
Serret has been immersed in the world of jewelry since childhood. Last year, after seeing a report exposing illicit practices in the mining sector, she decided to found Tracemark, which was born with the goal of guaranteeing responsible and sustainable practices across all links of the jewelry industry’s supply chain through its own encrypted software.
The Serret family is the majority shareholder of the company, including José Miguel Serret, Berta Serret’s father and CEO and founder of the jewelry manufacturer Facet.
Tracemark explores the responsible sourcing of the materials it analyzes. Furthermore, it operates by collaborating with jewelry brands to guarantee their transparency, relying on external auditors who certify the origin of gold, silver, and diamonds, such as the Responsible Jewellery Council.
The company, which studies the provenance of raw materials from extraction to the final consumer, collaborates with brands such as the Catalan jewelry brand Tous, the Dutch brand C’est Moi Jewels, the Spanish brand specializing in silver jewelry with natural diamonds Secrecy, or Facet, specialized in international jewelry production.
This year, the startup has been present at international fairs such as Fiera di Vicenza in Italy or JCK Las Vegas in the United States.
The Tracemark team consists of three permanent staff and ten freelance employees who are responsible for developing the company’s internal software. Additionally, the company also collaborates remotely with engineers from Asia.
Tracemark was launched with an initial investment of 600,000 euros and has offices located in Barcelona and Córdoba. Looking ahead to next year, the company plans to continue growing with its own resources, although, for its international expansion, it does not rule out potential external investors.
