This article details the discovery of a 170-carat pink diamond in Angola, the largest such find in 30 years. Named “The Lulo Rose,” its recovery highlights significant mineral potential and underscores the global rarity of large, high-quality colored diamonds.

The 170-carat pink diamond discovered in Angola has been named “The Lulo Rose”, after the mine in the northeast of the country where it was extracted.
It has been named “The Lulo Rose”, after the mine in northeastern Angola where it was extracted, and it is the largest pink diamond found in the last three decades. An Australian mining company discovered this 170-carat precious stone.
explains Dr. M’Zée Fula Ngenge, President of the African Diamond Council.
The diamond mining industry is booming in Angola. Twenty-seven gemstones over 100 carats have already been extracted from the Lulo site alone.
After being cut and polished to reach its full value, “The Lulo Rose” will be sold at international auctions. It remains to be seen whether its price will exceed that of the “Pink Star”.
In 2017, this 59.6-carat diamond was sold in Hong Kong for more than 71 million euros. It remains, at this stage, the diamond that has achieved the highest selling price in history.
