A 510-kilogram sapphire cluster was discovered in Sri Lanka in July while digging a well. The gemstone has now been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The world’s largest sapphire cluster, named the ‘Serendipity Sapphire’, was found in Sri Lanka. It was discovered in July 2021 and has been certified by Switzerland’s Gubelin Gem Lab as the world’s largest star sapphire cluster.
The sapphire stone, found in Sri Lanka’s Ratnapura region, is reported to weigh 510 kilograms or 2.5 million carats. Its value in the international market could reach up to $100 million.

According to media reports, laborers were digging a well at the gem trader’s house. They suddenly spotted the precious gemstones and realized they had found a treasure, not just a gem. The stone was presented to the world in December 2021 after receiving blessings from Buddhist monks.
Ratnapura is also known as Sri Lanka’s gem capital, and previously, people have found many gems and precious stones here without even searching.
The world has learned about this stone, and several international agencies have shown interest in purchasing it. Currently, the stone is kept in Switzerland and will be taken to the UK for auction.
