A record-breaking auction in Hong Kong saw the rare Williamson Pink diamond sell for approximately $58 million, setting a new world record for the highest price per carat ever achieved for a diamond at auction.

A rare pink diamond was sold for approximately 480 crore rupees (58 million US dollars) at an auction in Hong Kong on Friday. This pink diamond set a world record for the highest price per carat, breaking auction records. It was auctioned by Sotheby’s Hong Kong. The diamond is named the Williamson Pink and weighs 11.15 carats. The Williamson Pink was the second-largest pink diamond ever sold at auction. Pink diamonds are among the rarest and most in-demand precious gems in the global market.
The Williamson Pink Star was named after two other famous pink diamonds. The first is the 23.60-carat Williamson Diamond, which was gifted to the late Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding present in 1947. The second is the 59.60-carat Pink Star diamond, which set a record in 2017 by selling for 71.2 million US dollars at auction.

The same auction also featured a 205.7-carat yellow diamond named “The Red Cross Diamond.” Both sales also set records.
