This article highlights the launch of the Hammer Pro40 3D printer by Austria’s Incus at Formnext 2023. The new system is designed to bring the company’s metal additive manufacturing technology into the realm of series production for the first time.

The Austrian 3D printer manufacturer Incus will present its new 3D printer, the Hammer Pro40, at Formnext 2023. This printer is intended to make Incus’s metal 3D printing processes viable for series production for the first time.
According to Incus, the Hammer Pro40 builds upon the existing Hammer Lab35 system. With a platform six times larger and significantly increased printing speed, the leap to mass production is expected to be achieved. Incus states that this allows for the cost-effective production of large quantities of complex metal parts.
The Hammer Pro40 features two movable projectors that sequentially expose the layers of the component. Compared to the predecessor model, this has increased the printing speed by a factor of 7. Simultaneously, the cost projection per cubic centimeter is lower by a factor of 4.
Thanks to a high resolution of 40 micrometers, Incus claims that delicate structures and smooth surfaces can still be achieved. The company sees potential application fields in medical technology, automotive manufacturing, and jewelry production.
With Incus’s metal 3D printing technology, Lithography-based Metal Manufacturing (LMM), complex metal parts can be built layer by layer through photochemical processes. Compared to powder bed-based processes, Incus promises time and cost advantages with high precision.
