SCIMaS: A New IT Solution for R&D&I Management

A software solution called SCIMaS, which facilitates the management of science and innovation in organizations, was recently developed by the Information Technology Company (ETI), part of BioCubaFarma.

Gema Cossío Cárdenas, Director of Intelligence and Process Management at ETI, explained to Granma that SCIMaS – one of the innovative products to be presented at the IV Meeting on Management Systems for Information and Communication Technologies, SIGESTIC 2023, to be held from the 10th to the 14th of this month – is a platform that integrates the different activities linked to the R&D&I process, such as the management of the problem bank, ideas, and opportunities for innovation.

The executive emphasized that SCIMaS also includes a module for managing requests for strategic surveillance and intelligence studies, i.e., market reports, scientific-technological trends and strategic profiles, as well as thematic bulletins.

“This tool,” she specified, “is based on the Cuban technical standards NC 1307: R&D&I Management System; and NC 1308: Surveillance and Intelligence System; as well as applicable legal and regulatory requirements.”

She also added that SCIMaS allows compliance with what the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment establishes regarding science and innovation activity.

Cossío Cárdenas highlighted that “it is a very intuitive, accessible tool with high functionality, and it also has a dashboard, where the real-time behavior of some indicators can be visualized.”
Organizational Consulting: A Service Being Enhanced and Improved

The Intelligence and Process Management Directorate of ETI will also make a new service available to the business system and different actors in society: Organizational consulting for standardized management systems, such as quality, innovation, strategic surveillance and intelligence, and documentary information and archives.

“With this organizational consulting,” detailed Gema Cossío Cárdenas, “the aim is to implement these types of management systems in organizations, for which the service covers everything from diagnosis, implementation and training, to subsequent evaluation.”

She specified that, within these consultancies, they conduct a 360-degree diagnosis, where they evaluate the work and management practices of organizations to face the implementation of Systems, in accordance with technical regulations and applicable legal and regulatory aspects.

She indicated that the service also includes training regarding the interpretation of technical regulations and performance evaluation, which translates into internal audits, in order to provide opportunities for continuous improvement.

Cossío Cárdenas highlighted that ETI has been certified since 2019 by the Spanish Association for Standardization and the National Office of Standardization for its quality, R&D&I, and surveillance and intelligence management systems; which endorses its capacity and expertise to offer this type of service.
