Already in Use in France

If you have driven in France, you might recognize this new diamond-shaped sign, as the country implemented it on its roads some time ago. French authorities monitor the use of these lanes with cameras and temperature sensors, which are used to verify that vehicles traveling on them are carrying more than one passenger. This system could arrive in Spain in 2025, along with the signs.

Similar to the VAO Lane

The new sign that the DGT (Directorate-General for Traffic) could incorporate has a meaning similar to that of VAO lanes (High-Occupancy Vehicle lanes) already used in Spain. The diamond-shaped sign will identify shared-use lanes for vehicles with two or more occupants, including taxis. Regarding visibility, it has not yet been specified whether it will be a vertical sign or painted on the asphalt.
