Tita Thyssen’s passion for jewelry is no secret, although her collection holds many unknown details. Her most special piece is ‘The Peace Star’, an imposing diamond of approximately 179 carats, which is the largest flawless stone in the world. It is a unique and exclusive jewel that would be valued at over 10 million euros and which she wore at the inauguration of the Madrid museum.
Carmen Cervera does not reveal its value because “I never talk about prices,” but after the exclusive interview that Miquel Valls conducted with her for Más Espejo, we can reveal all the secrets this jewel holds. It is the Baroness herself who tells us its story.
In May 1973, Carmen Cervera was widowed by her first husband, the American actor Lex Barker. A few years later, she was going on a cruise with some friends and decided to “travel peacefully” and leave her jewels stored in the safe of Harry Winston, an American luxury jeweler and friend of her late husband. “I still didn’t know Hans Heinrich von Thyssen.” During that visit, Harry Winston invited Tita into his office, and there was the diamond.
Years later, that stone ended up being her property, a gift from Baron Thyssen. Before that, three people had wanted to buy it. One weekend when Tita and the Baron were traveling to Germany, upon their return at the airport, the Baroness’s mother was waiting for them, which surprised her because she also had little Borja with her.
