Sotheby’s recent ‘Magnificent Jewels’ auction in New York achieved a total of $30 million, exceeding its pre-sale estimates and underscoring the continued strength of the high-end jewelry market.
On December 12, Sotheby’s ‘Magnificent Jewels’ auction concluded in New York with a total sales figure of $30 million, surpassing the pre-sale estimate range of $19.8 million to $29.5 million.
At this auction, three lots of ‘Alexandrite’ gemstones achieved a combined total of $3.3 million. Sotheby’s stated that this transaction set a new auction record for Alexandrite, noting that this gemstone, famous for its ‘color-change phenomenon,’ is currently experiencing a significant surge in market popularity.
The auction house rated this group of stones as being of ‘top gem quality.’ Sotheby’s jewelry expert and head of the Magnificent Jewels department, Anna Ruzhnikov, commented:
