The Marquise Trend

Oval diamond like Zendaya or marquise diamond like Selena Gomez? Here are the engagement ring trends that will define 2025.

First big news of 2025: Zendaya and Tom Holland are engaged! On the red carpet at the Golden Globes Awards ceremony, the American actress shone brightly in her Oscar de la Renta gown, accessorized with her stunning engagement ring. According to People magazine, this oval-shaped ring is a creation by London-based jeweler Jessica McCormack. It’s also known that this jewel, set in white and yellow gold, weighs 5.02 carats. Finally, Tom Holland reportedly spent €200,000 on this sumptuous engagement ring.

While Zendaya’s diamond revives the trend for oval-shaped rings, let’s take a look at the four other engagement ring shapes that will be trendy in 2025.

“The carat is a unit of measurement that indicates the weight of a precious stone: 1 carat is equal to 0.2 g. It is often confused with the purity of gold, but in France, you cannot use ‘carat’ for the metal. There, we talk about thousandths!”

explains Alexis Coin, Director of Design and Jewelry Operations at Gemmyo. If Tom Holland made a strong statement by proposing to Zendaya with a 5.02-carat ring, he is not alone. On December 12th, producer Benny Blanco got down on one knee for Selena Gomez. To finally convince his beloved, he proposed with a sumptuous six-carat marquise diamond worth €219,000.

And just hours after Selena Gomez revealed her pretty engagement ring on Instagram, searches for “marquise engagement ring” reportedly doubled their average volume in December 2024, according to Google Trends. We can already be sure that this diamond shape will be a trend in 2025.

“The marquise cut is, in my opinion, a rather bold choice, but aesthetically, it inspires me enormously. Its elongated shape sits perfectly on the ring finger and brings undeniable grace. If you have an independent spirit and want to break free from the traditional codes of jewelry, it’s clearly an interesting choice!”

analyzes Alexis Coin.

The “Toi & Moi” Trend

2025 will clearly be the year of boldness. According to our jewelry expert, “Toi & Moi” (You & Me) rings will be among the most requested this year.

“The engagement ring will adopt a more poetic vision, allowing each couple to symbolize themselves through unique stones. At the same time, pavé settings will make a major comeback on ring bands, while the metal will gradually fade, making way for lighter and more refined creations.”

The same trend is observed at Messika.

“In 2025, we will see engagement rings combining timeless elegance and bold individuality. Couples are looking for designs that break tradition: think asymmetric settings or unexpected pairings of diamonds and colored gemstones. Our ‘toi & moi’ models, like the My Twin collection, perfectly embody this trend, offering a balance between modernity and romance,”

declares Valérie Messika.

The Colored Stones and Diamonds Trend

When asked what the most popular model at Gemmyo is at the moment, Alexis Coin’s response confirms that risk-taking will be on the agenda.

“Our clients love the great classics of jewelry, but updated with a touch of boldness. The Lefkos collection is a perfect example: a daisy ring (like Lady Di’s), but reinterpreted to eliminate the traditional and somewhat heavy aspect of its historical design. The elegance of its roundness takes over, with a thin and slightly pinched band, and a center stone enhanced, perhaps, by a chocolate diamond, surrounded by a pavé setting that highlights its color.”
“Although classic white diamonds are timeless, more and more clients are inquiring about alternative diamonds. The two most popular are light yellow diamonds and champagne diamonds. These are diamonds with subtle colors ranging from canary yellow to amber brown and peach hues. They have the sparkle of a traditional diamond, with soft and creamy colors as a bonus. Champagne diamonds in particular are a very good compromise for people attracted to the classic elegance of diamonds but who still want something a little different: they are subtle yet eye-catching,”

explains Rachel Boston in the pages of the English version of Glamour magazine.

The Pearl Pieces Trend

In 2019, Emma Stone revealed her bold engagement ring with a pretty central pearl surrounded by small diamonds. Six years later, pearls are back in fashion.

“In June of this year, we saw an increase in searches for pearl rings, particularly those adorned with diamonds,”

explains a spokesperson for the world-renowned Japanese pearl brand Mikimoto.

“Our latest Mikimoto Lumière Perle collection features pearls accentuated by the sparkle of diamonds.”
