This article reports on the discovery of a 177-carat diamond in the Central African Republic, described by officials as an unprecedented find for the nation.
The Central African Republic has discovered a 177-carat diamond, presented by the government as one of the largest ever found in the country.
With a weight of 177.97 carats, the precious stone was unearthed in the Nzako region.

According to the spokesperson for the Central African government, Maxime Balalou, this is an unprecedented discovery in the history of the Central African Republic (CAR).
The Head of State, Faustin Archange Touadéra, personally visited the Bureau for the Evaluation and Control of Diamonds and Gold (BECDOR) in Bangui to view the precious find.
However, this discovery also raises many contradictions.
According to CorbeauNews, which points out flaws in the government’s communication, the record for the largest diamond would be held by the “Spirit of De Grisogono,” which weighed 587 carats and, once cut, reached 312.24 carats.
Despite its very rich subsoil, the Central African Republic is considered one of the poorest countries in the world.
