Editor’s Note
This directive from the Madhya Pradesh education authorities prioritizes student welfare and access to education over strict uniform compliance during winter months.

The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department has issued an order stating that during winter, no government or private school can prevent a student from attending class if they wear a sweater of a different color or design than the prescribed uniform.
The department said that if a student comes to school on any day during winter wearing clothes/a sweater of a different color/design than the uniform, they should not be prevented from being present in the class. The Education Department further stated in the order:
The Directorate of Public Instruction has issued an order addressed to all District Education Officers in the state and all District Assistant Commissioners/Coordinators of the Tribal Affairs Department. The order contains instructions regarding children’s uniforms as well as instructions on attending class wearing shoes.
