This season’s Joaillerie Paris sale showcases a remarkable collection spanning from Belle Époque treasures to modernist masterpieces and bold contemporary designs. With estimates reaching up to €9.3 million, the auction highlights the enduring artistry of jewelry from legendary houses and individual creators alike.
The Joaillerie Paris sale, presented online from December 5 to 17, comprises over 270 lots with a total estimate ranging from €6.4 to €9.3 million. It includes pieces from the Belle Époque (including a Chaumet brooch), modernist jewels by Suzanne Belperron, bold and colorful combinations from Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels, or JAR, and exceptional pearl creations.
Joaillerie Paris once again offers the opportunity to acquire pieces signed by the greatest names in jewelry. The estimates, ranging from €2,000 for a Lacloche tie pin to €120,000 for a Bulgari bracelet, cater to a very wide range of buyers.
At the very moment the Tokyo National Art Center is dedicating an unprecedented exhibition to it, the House of Bulgari is honored in the Joaillerie Paris sale, featuring one of its finest pieces: a bracelet estimated at €120,000-150,000. Adorned with emerald, sapphire, and ruby cabochons, this bracelet with its extensive color palette invites travel and exoticism. It alone perfectly illustrates the play of colors and their symbolism, dear to this famous jewelry house. Color is also present with another Bulgari set, comprising a ring and a pair of earrings set with sapphire cabochons (€30,000-50,000).
The house of Van Cleef & Arpels stands out with two iconic pieces. A superb sautoir, designed in the 1970s-80s by Georges Lenfant, is expected to generate great interest. The work on the chain, punctuated by coral and amethyst beads, is a hallmark of this creator, author of countless famous pieces for many houses on Place Vendôme (€70,000-90,000).
René Boivin is once again one of the star jewelers of Joaillerie Paris, represented by about fifteen pieces. Through the eclecticism of its themes and a style recognizable among the jewelers of its time, the House of Boivin continues to surprise and fascinate collectors worldwide. Two pieces perfectly illustrate the rich vocabulary of forms that René Boivin draws from both fauna and flora. The sapphires of a “flower ring” readily evoke bellflowers, while a perfume pendant takes the shape of a fish with precious scales of colored sapphires and chrysoprase (€15,000-20,000 each). Later, a distinctly more architectural line emerged within the House of Boivin with the creations of Suzanne Belperron, who designed pieces of great modernity with sculptural forms, such as this brooch in fluted chalcedony enhanced with a carved emerald, a similar model of which has already been presented by Christie’s (€40,000-50,000, illustrated above).
Lovers of antique-style pieces will be captivated by a Belle Époque brooch from the house of Chaumet (€30,000-40,000) and also by a fine set of six pearl necklaces, ranging from a piece estimated at €6,000-8,000 to an elegant three-strand necklace enhanced with a sapphire clasp (€50,000-80,000).
