“Embarrassed by the Flood of Scandals”
“Claiming Spouse’s Detention is Unfair is Self-Contradictory”

As the bail hearing for former President Yoon Suk-yeol’s wife, Kim Keon-hee, approaches, former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo criticized Yoon Suk-yeol’s camp, which he had previously labeled as “Joguk Suhong.” “Joguk Suhong” is a nickname given by netizens, meaning “Hong defends Joguk,” after Hong stated during a 2021 People Power Party presidential primary debate that “the investigation into former Justice Minister Cho Kuk was excessive.”

On the 13th, former Mayor Hong posted on social media:

“When I said during the October 2021 presidential primary that detaining both Cho Kuk and his wife was a harsh investigation that went beyond common sense for family crimes, how much did Yoon Suk-yeol’s side slander me as ‘Joguk Suhong’?”

He continued his criticism regarding Kim Keon-hee, who is currently undergoing a bail hearing. Bail is a system that suspends detention and releases a detained defendant upon payment of a certain security deposit, allowing the trial to proceed without detention if granted by the court. Kim’s side applied for bail on the 3rd, citing health deterioration such as dizziness and anxiety symptoms.

Former Mayor Hong pointed out:

“Isn’t it self-contradictory for Kim Keon-hee to now apply for bail and claim that detaining a couple is unfair? The crimes of the Yoon Suk-yeol couple are not family crimes but crimes against the state. It’s a self-inflicted wound. I’m so embarrassed by the flood of scandals and corruption that I can’t hold my head up.”
