MJP 300W: Wax 3D Printing for Precise Investment Casting Patterns in Jewelry and Industrial Applications

Editor’s Note

This article introduces the ProJet MJP 300W, a new wax 3D printer from 3D Systems designed for investment casting. It highlights the machine’s focus on high-resolution, detailed patterns for jewelry and industrial use, emphasizing its genuine wax material and streamlined workflow that reduces post-processing.

New 3D Printer for Investment Casting

With the ProJet MJP 300W, 3D Systems expands its portfolio in the additive manufacturing sector for investment casting applications. The new wax 3D printer is specifically designed for producing highly detailed master patterns suitable for jewelry manufacturing as well as industrial castings. The core focus lies in the combination of genuine wax material, high print resolution, and efficient workflows that eliminate the need for extensive post-processing.

MultiJet Printing Technology

The MJP 300W utilizes the MultiJet Printing (MJP) process, where wax material and support material are deposited layer by layer simultaneously. The material used, VisiJet M2 CAST, is fully castable and can be processed in the investment casting process without leaving residues. The use of soluble support material eliminates the manual removal of support structures – a significant advantage for series production and for intricate designs with complex geometries.

Technical Specifications and Modes

Technically, the MJP 300W offers two operating modes: In QHD mode, extremely fine details with high edge and surface accuracy can be achieved. The UHD mode enables faster production while maintaining dimensional accuracy. According to the manufacturer, the printing speed is many times higher than comparable systems. The printed parts are characterized by low shrinkage, high dimensional stability, and clean burnout in the casting process – without significant ash residues.

Economic Benefits for Jewelry and Technical Casting

For applications with high demands on detail fidelity, thermal resistance, and reproducibility, the MJP 300W offers an economical alternative to traditional master pattern making. Particularly for small to medium series in the jewelry industry or in technical investment casting, this technology can reduce tooling costs and shorten development times.
