For over a century, Hoffmann Optik, Uhren und Schmuck has been a fixture in Bad Cannstatt, blending time-honored values with a keen eye for innovation. This piece explores how the family-run business continues to thrive by balancing tradition and modernity.

Since 1904, Hoffmann Optik, Uhren und Schmuck has been located at Marktstraße 36 in Bad Cannstatt. The team led by Michael and Irene Baur focuses on traditional values such as expert consultation, quality, and reliability, while always keeping an eye and a feel for trends and innovations.
Sunlight is good for the psyche but harmful to the eyes. Therefore, good sunglasses not only look stylish but also have lenses with distortion-free vision and good UV protection. These quality criteria are a given at Hoffmann Optik, Uhren und Schmuck in Bad Cannstatt. The specialist store also carries sports sunglasses that contribute to optimal performance.
At “Opti,” the leading trade fair for opticians, and “Inhorgenta,” the specialist trade fair for watches and jewelry, both in Munich, the Baurs recently discovered many highlights and ideas for their customers in Cannstatt. These include, for example, “wedding watches,” which are chronometers for the bridal couple, designed to be coordinated as a pair. There is also a new trend in sunglasses for spring.
A new spectacle lens technology from Rodenstock called “Sensitive” also allows for an even more individual adaptation of the lenses to the wearer’s eyes and thus even better vision, explains the managing director of Hoffmann Optik, Uhren und Schmuck.
Michael Baur, master optician and business administrator, leads the traditional family business in its fourth generation with his wife Irene, also a master optician, and his parents Heide and Manfred Baur. The employees are also all “specialists”—from the jewelry salesperson to the master watchmaker. The high level of expertise benefits the customers.
Hoffmann offers, in addition to all types of glasses, contact lenses, reading aids, and binoculars, also beautiful jewelry, an extensive range of wall and table clocks, alarm clocks, and wristwatches, as well as its own watch workshop.
