Editor’s Note
In a crowded mid-range market, Realme’s latest Pro models attempt to carve out a niche with a playful, weather-reactive design and capable cameras. This article examines whether such inventive features are enough to make a lasting impression.

Realme has announced its new smartphones: the Realme 14 Pro and 14 Pro+. Two mid-range devices that aim to stand out through their design. Indeed, they change color depending on the weather. Inventive and fun. The Pro+ model also focuses on a solid camera setup.
Today, it is difficult for manufacturers to differentiate themselves in the mid-range smartphone market. To try to stand out, they focus on specific technical points or on an unusual design. This is the case with Realme’s two new devices, the 14 Pro and 14 Pro+.
Their main feature lies in the visual aspect. Indeed, both products feature a back cover that mimics the appearance of a seashell, but with an interesting advantage: the color changes according to the weather. Thus, when the temperature is below 16 degrees Celsius, the back becomes blue. When it’s warmer, it turns immaculate white. It’s certainly a gimmick, but very nice on paper. Above all, it’s unique on the market. We were able to try it and it’s true that seeing your smartphone change color proves to be very playful.
Design is therefore at the heart of Realme’s proposition, but the manufacturer also wants to offer something technically solid. The Realme 14 Pro models thus benefit from a solid technical foundation, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor for the Pro+ model and a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 for the standard 14 Pro. Both are equipped with a 6000 mAh battery promising excellent battery life. Fast charging of 80 Watts for the Pro+ model and 45 Watts for the standard model.

It’s on the photography side that the 14 Pro+ seeks to stand out with three rear sensors: a Sony IMX896 OIS 50-megapixel for the wide-angle, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (112 degrees) and, most importantly, a 50-megapixel IMX882 telephoto lens with digital zoom up to X120. The standard model also features a 50-megapixel main sensor, but is accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
