A very rare blue diamond was sold for $21.5 million (approximately 3.14 billion yen) at an auction held in Geneva, Switzerland, on the night of the 14th, Sotheby’s, the auction house, announced.
Named “The Mediterranean Blue,” this fancy vivid blue diamond weighs 10.3 carats. Its pre-sale estimate was $20 million (approximately 2.92 billion yen).

The winning bidder was a private collector from the United States, whose name was not disclosed.
“The Mediterranean Blue” is a new blue diamond recently mined from the renowned Cullinan mine in South Africa and has been a major focus of attention within the industry since its announcement in March.
