This article details eBay’s expansion of its authenticity verification service in Germany, set for November 2025. The program will now include clothing, shoes, and accessories from select brands, complementing existing categories like watches and handbags. A notable update is the free verification for jewelry items valued at €500 or more, underscoring the platform’s effort to build trust in the secondhand market.

Starting in November 2025, the marketplace eBay is significantly expanding its authenticity verification service in Germany. In addition to watches, handbags, and sneakers, clothing, shoes, and accessories from over 30 selected brands will now be verified, as the company announced. Jewelry items priced at 500 euros or more will even be verified free of charge. This move strengthens eBay’s commitment to fostering greater trust in the secondhand market and clearly positions the platform as a destination for high-quality pre-loved products.
For items with a selling price of 100 euros or more, buyers can optionally add the authenticity verification for a fee of 10 euros. After the purchase, sellers send the item to an eBay verification center. There, each piece is checked based on brand-specific characteristics such as materials, labels, and craftsmanship. If the product passes the inspection, it receives an authenticity tag with a QR code and is shipped directly to the buyer. Items are also re-checked in case of returns – an added layer of security for both parties.

The offering includes brands such as Adidas, Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Prada, The North Face, Versace, or Wellensteyn. This allows eBay to cover both the luxury and streetwear segments.
Special trust will also be placed in the trade of jewelry items with a sales value of 500 euros or more. These will be verified free of charge by experts trained by eBay, who have completed their education at the renowned Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Checks include the types of precious metals, gemstone quality, and the item description. After passing the inspection, customers receive an authenticity card with a QR code. Here too, the rule applies: if returned, the item is re-inspected before being sent back to the seller.

GIA-COO Pritesh Patel emphasized the role of consumer protection.

This expansion builds upon eBay’s existing verification offerings for categories like watches and handbags, further solidifying its infrastructure for the re-commerce and secondhand luxury goods market.
