Rajasthan has achieved a historic milestone in the mining sector with the successful auction of its first emerald block in Rajsamand district, marking the state’s entry into the global emerald map.
The e-auction for the Mojawaton Ka Guda block in Rajsamand concluded with Odisha-based Agrasen Sponge Pvt Ltd emerging as the preferred bidder. The company secured the block with an impressive bid premium of 361.70 percent.
The emerald auction is expected to give a big boost to the state’s economy through higher royalty and revenue collection. Officials said it will also create thousands of jobs in mining and processing, promote exports, and increase foreign exchange earnings. The move is expected to spur infrastructure development in rural areas through better roads, electricity, and related facilities.
Emerald, considered the gemstone of planet Mercury, has strong demand in the jewellery sector for rings, necklaces, and earrings and also carries astrological significance.
Globally, Colombia and Brazil dominate emerald production and Rajasthan’s entry is likely to strengthen India’s share in the international market.
