Kyocera’s Jewelry Business Reaches 50-Year Milestone

Kyocera Corporation (Representative Director and President: Hideo Tanimoto, hereinafter “Kyocera”) announces that its jewelry business, which was created by applying the company’s crystal technology, has reached its 50th anniversary this year.

Commemorative Activities and Products

To commemorate the 50th anniversary, Kyocera has created special commemorative jewelry models. Sales will commence sequentially at the “Kyocera Jewelry Collection 2025 Colorful Exhibition” to be held by the company in Kyoto, at jewelry exhibitions and sales events held in various locations, and on the “Kyocera Jewelry Online Store”.

Origins in Crystal Technology

Kyocera applied the crystal technology cultivated through the manufacturing of fine ceramics to the development of gemstones and succeeded in manufacturing emeralds in 1975.

“At that time, natural gemstones were sold at high prices due to a shortage of high-quality rough stones, and were not something anyone could easily purchase.”

The company’s founder, Kazuo Inamori, wanted to use crystal technology to recreate the original beauty of gemstones, which was becoming difficult to find in nature, and to provide the joy of wearing gemstones to everyone. Based on this idea, he started the jewelry business and succeeded in developing the same lab-grown gemstones that possess the scientific, physical, and optical properties of natural stones.

Current Business and Market Recognition

Half a century after the business’s inception, it now develops 12 types of gemstones, including sapphires and rubies, under the “Crescent Vert” brand. The brand is valued not only in Japan but also overseas, with sales for the March 2025 period increasing by 25% compared to the same period last year.

Ethical Consumption and Sustainable Value

In recent years, the trend of “ethical consumption,” where consumers choose products based not only on the product’s value but also on manufacturing and procurement methods that consider the environment and society, has been growing.

“Natural stones are accompanied by harsh mining environments deep underground and issues such as resource depletion due to mining. However, Kyocera’s gemstones are attracting attention as ethical gemstones because they are gemstones grown (grown) in a laboratory (lab).”
Future Commitment

As a pioneer of lab-grown gemstones, Kyocera will continue to contribute to the environment and society and provide richness to people’s hearts, while spreading ethical gemstones to the world.
