**Editor’s Note:** This report details the swift arrest of a jewelry thief by Mumbai police, highlighting effective patrol work that led to the recovery of stolen valuables within hours of the crime.
A team from the Kasturba Marg police station apprehended a jewelry thief near Borivali (East) Railway Station during a routine patrol. The accused has been identified as Karan Singh Kharwar. Cash, gold, and diamonds were recovered from him, which he had stolen from a shop in Navi Mumbai on September 6. Kharwar has been handed over to the Navi Mumbai police for further investigation. The police claim the accused was caught within four hours of the theft.
An official stated that the theft occurred at Parshwanath Jewelers in Kamothe, Navi Mumbai, between 2 PM and 3 PM on September 6. Subsequently, the jeweler filed a complaint reporting the theft of 78 tolas of gold jewelry, 18 diamonds, and 1.3 lakh rupees in cash. The Kamothe police and the local crime branch initiated a joint investigation.
Meanwhile, the thief, Kharwar, was planning to flee to his hometown in Rajasthan. Therefore, he had reached Borivali, where he was caught by the Kasturba Marg police. He was spotted by the police moving suspiciously with a bag. The investigation revealed that Kharwar had worked at the same jewelry shop ten days prior to the theft. While working, he gathered information about the valuable items in the shop and, on September 6, when the owner went out for lunch in the afternoon, he fled with the jewelry. Senior PI Jayraj Ranaware executed the action under the guidance of DCP Anand Bhoite.
