Exhibitors Report Significant Sales Decline

The 44th IITF saw participation from traders from 30 states and union territories and 12 countries. However, many exhibitors reported a significant drop in sales compared to expectations, with declines of up to 40-50% attributed to the recent blast in Delhi and high pollution levels.

“I have been participating in this fair continuously for 35 years, but sales have dropped by 30-35% this time. The main reasons appear to be the blast in Delhi and the pollution. The market has never been as sluggish as it was this year,” said Ramzan Ali, a carpet maker and seller from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.
“Compared to previous years, I have also seen a drop in sales this time. The blast at Delhi’s Red Fort seems to be the main reason. Sales have fallen by up to 50% compared to last year,” said Firoz Alam, an exhibitor from Jharkhand participating for the third year.
“Sales did not meet my expectations this time. The main reason is the blast that happened a few days before the fair. Because of this, people were scared and didn’t come to the fair. Delhi’s weather is like this every year, so pollution is not the reason affecting sales,” said Pushkar Ray, a Madhubani painting exhibitor from Bihar.

“I participated for the first time and was disappointed. Sales were not even 25% of expectations. The main reason seems to be the bad pollution in Delhi, my main market. The second main reason is the Delhi blast. Because of these two reasons, people who wanted to come to the fair preferred not to leave their homes. But it’s okay, business has its ups and downs. I hope sales will be good next time,” said Smeresh Chatterjee, an exhibitor from West Bengal.
