This article explains the construction of paper casting jewellery, a technique that uses a hollow core with a thin gold plating to achieve a lightweight yet lustrous appearance.

Paper casting jewellery is not made entirely of gold. It has a hollow inner layer and only a thin layer of gold (gold sheet) is plated on the outside. This significantly reduces the weight of the jewellery, but it shines exactly like real gold when viewed.
| Aspect | Normal Gold Jewellery | Paper Casting Jewellery |
|---|---|---|
| Construction | Made entirely of gold | Hollow inside, gold layer on top |
| Weight | Heavy, filled with real gold | Lightweight, less gold |
| Price | Expensive | Cheap |
| Resale Value | Full price received* | Low resale value |
| Durability | Durable, strong | Delicate, risk of breakage |
Gold prices are at record levels, making the purchase of heavy jewellery expensive. Paper casting jewellery is lightweight, cheap, and looks heavy, so people prefer it for weddings or functions. It also offers more variety and creativity in design. Since it doesn’t need to be worn for long periods, people consider it a better option for temporary use.
Although this jewellery looks beautiful, it has low resale value and limited durability. If you want to look stylish on a budget, it’s a great option, but not for long-term investment.
In the era of expensive gold, paper casting jewellery is rapidly becoming a trend by balancing both fashion and budget.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold saw another surge. On Thursday, 24-carat gold recorded an increase of 1579 rupees per 10 grams and was trading at 1,28,789 rupees. On Wednesday, this price was 1,27,210 rupees.
Meanwhile, on the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 24-carat gold reached 1,27,471 rupees per 10 grams. Compared to the previous day, it recorded an increase of 679 rupees.
