Fancy colored diamond prices stabilized in Q3 2024, halting two quarters of modest decline, according to the latest Fancy Color Diamond Index. While yellow diamond prices dipped slightly, pinks saw a marginal increase.

(IDEX Online) – Prices of fancy colored diamonds remained stable during the three months to 30 September, following two quarters of modest decline.

The Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) recorded zero change overall during Q3, although there was a slight decline for yellows (all sizes and intensities), offset by a very slight increase for pinks.

The index, compiled by the New York-based Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF), fell by a record 2.2 percent in 2024. In Q1 of this year, prices dipped by 0.3 percent, and in Q2 by 0.5 per cent.

Market Commentary

The FCRF quoted Harsh Maheshwari, executive director at Hong Kong-based Kunming Diamonds, as saying:

“The consistency observed this quarter is a constructive signal for the fancy color diamond market.
“In times of economic uncertainty, price stability supports stronger decision-making for both buyers and sellers, allowing confidence to return gradually and sustainably.”

The index currently stands at 98.08, reflecting a 1.9 percent decline over the trailing 12 months, said FCRF in its latest quarterly update.

This represents a modest improvement from the 2.4 per cent and 2.5 per cent 12‑month declines recorded in the previous two quarters.

Underlying Dynamics

“This quarter’s flat performance conceals a more complex dynamic beneath the surface,” it said.

“While headline figures suggest stasis, specific segments, particularly within the pink category, posted measurable gains (+0.1 per cent), while the yellow segment (-0.4 per cent) continued to weigh down the overall index.” Blues remained unchanged.
