The Jharkhand government has announced a pre-emptive measure to distribute three months’ ration in advance to vulnerable communities ahead of the monsoon season. This proactive step aims to mitigate potential hardships caused by anticipated heavy rains and flooding.
Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has decided to provide three months’ ration in advance to the poor before the monsoon. In view of the upcoming monsoon and the possibility of rain and floods, the Department of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs has taken a historic decision.
Ration for the months of June, July, and August will be provided together to 2.88 crore ration cardholder beneficiaries in Jharkhand, so that no one sleeps hungry even during a disaster. Following the central government’s directive, the state government has promptly issued orders for ration distribution from June 1 to 30. The department has directed all district administrations to ensure no negligence in the distribution work and that beneficiaries receive their ration on time and safely.
State Food Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has made it clear that injustice to the poor will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Dr. Ansari said he himself will monitor the distribution work and strict action will be taken against negligent officials.
Minister Irfan Ansari has directed to call an emergency meeting of all DSOs and FCI officials. In this meeting, concrete decisions will be taken on the storage of three months’ grain, availability of warehouses, logistics arrangements, and ensuring the quality of ration. Special instructions have been given to ensure that grain does not rot anywhere and every beneficiary receives the correct quantity and quality ration.
The department is fully prepared to tackle any kind of disaster. The supply chain is being strengthened so that there is no delay in providing relief to the poor under any circumstances.
