Editor’s Note
This article highlights AS Saint-Étienne’s strong position in Ligue 2 following a key victory before the international break. The team has solidified its hold on second place, trailing only the current leader, ES Troyes AC.

After its valuable victory on the pitch of the Stade de La Mosson against MHSC – Montpellier HSC just before this international break, AS Saint-Etienne has consolidated its solid second place in the Ligue 2 standings, just behind the surprising leader ESTAC – ES Troyes AC.
A rather satisfying start to the season, therefore, for Ivan Gazidis and Eirik Horneland on the ASSE side, who experienced a very lively transfer window right up to the end this summer, as evidenced by the famous episodes of Lucas Stassin and Zuriko Davitashvili, not to mention the very thorny case of Pierre Ekwah.
And you certainly haven’t missed this: while Rudi Garcia did discuss the sporting situation of Lucas Stassin, who is in his notes for the Belgian national team even though he plays in Ligue 2, AS Roma would have ticked the name of the young and very promising 20-year-old Belgian striker for their next winter transfer window, according to transalpine media.
A very surprising idea, not to say hardly credible, because our journalist Loïc J. was present at the Stadio Olimpico for the last Europa League match between AS Roma and LOSC just a week ago, and he confided to us that he had exchanged with several of his Italian colleagues prior to this match regarding the club from the capital, and apparently their current situation would be more about selling given their financial problems and overloaded squad, not about strengthening.
And even less so in the striker position, where a departure of Paulo Dybala would not be out of the question but where AS Roma already counts in its ranks two top scorers with Artem Dovbyk and especially Evan Ferguson, for whom the capital club is already counting its pennies in order to be able to exercise its purchase option set by Brighton at nearly €37M at the end of the season.
With all these elements and such a context, we do not see how AS Roma could consider taking action with ASSE for Lucas Stassin. Without envying the talent and immense potential of the former Westerlo scorer… A situation to follow nonetheless for Ivan Gazidis and Kilmer Sport Ventures at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
