【Tokyo, Japan】”Bvlgari Kaleidos: Color, Culture, Craftsmanship” Opens at The National Art Center, Tokyo: A Unique Venue Where High Jewelry Meets Art

Editor’s Note

The National Art Center in Tokyo is currently hosting “Bvlgari Kaleidos: Color, Culture, Craftsmanship,” the brand’s largest exhibition ever in Japan. It runs through December 15.

Exhibition Overview

The National Art Center, Tokyo in Roppongi has welcomed the opening of “Bvlgari Kaleidos: Color, Culture, Craftsmanship,” the largest exhibition Bvlgari has ever held in Japan. The exhibition will run until December 15.

The Title and Theme

The title “Kaleidos” is derived from Greek, meaning “beautiful (kalos)” and “form, kind (eidos).” Centered on Bvlgari’s “color,” the exhibition brings together a remarkable collection of precious jewelry from the “Bvlgari Heritage Collection,” which chronicles the Maison’s history, and from private collections, alongside artworks that respond to them.

CEO’s Statement
None
“Tokyo is a major city in Asia. The National Art Center, Tokyo is one of the world’s premier art museums, and it is a great honor to hold an exhibition here. This is the first time Bvlgari has made ‘beautiful color’ the main theme of an exhibition. Color has always been an inspiration; it is Bvlgari’s art itself,” said Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of the Bvlgari Group, at the opening.
Exhibition Design

The key to the exhibition’s success lies in its venue design, a collaboration between the architectural unit “SANAA” (Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa) and the Italian design unit “Formafantasma.” The space features a repetitive pattern inspired by the mosaic patterns of the Baths of Caracalla, built by the Roman emperor Caracalla, and the ginkgo tree, Tokyo’s symbolic tree. Using aluminum, acrylic, and colored panels, the design amplifies the brilliance of the jewelry. Upon entering, visitors will feel as if the exhibition stretches endlessly. Ayako Miyajima, Chief Researcher at The National Art Center, Tokyo, expressed confidence in the space:

“Visitors can become part of the space and physically experience Bvlgari’s art.”
