This article reports on a dispute between Mexican businessman Roberto Palazuelos and PROFECO regarding a sanction on his Tulum hotel. Palazuelos denies the suspension is related to high prices, contrary to the agency’s initial statement. We are following this developing story.

A recent inspection by the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) in the Tulum area of Quintana Roo has brought the Diamante K hotel, owned by Roberto Palazuelos, into the spotlight. This follows the release of an official statement indicating the suspension of the establishment for alleged high prices.
However, Palazuelos himself has stepped forward to counter these reports, asserting that the sanction imposed on his business is not related to rates, but rather to minor administrative issues.
The actor and businessman used his X account to deny that the reason for the sanction was linked to excessive pricing. In his message, Palazuelos stated:
Later, he directed a message to PROFECO demanding transparency and honorability from the authority, and maintained:

In an audio sent to journalist Gustavo Adolfo Infante, Palazuelos detailed that the PROFECO inspection in the Tulum National Park resulted in the detection of two irregularities at his hotel: the absence of milliliter specifications on the menu and the practice of housekeepers leaving tip envelopes, an action he acknowledged he was unaware was prohibited.
The businessman denied that the hotel’s suspension had been ordered and emphasized:
according to his explanation to Gustavo Adolfo Infante.
Palazuelos also defended the pricing policy of his establishment, stating:

For its part, the official PROFECO statement reported that during the operation, significant differences in hotel rates and various violations of current regulations were identified.
The agency’s personnel visited twenty-nine establishments, including self-service stores, pharmacies, hotels, and restaurants, both in downtown Tulum and in Jaguar Park.
According to the authority, the most expensive double room detected corresponded to the Diamante K hotel, with a rate of 13,860 pesos, a figure that exceeded the area’s average.
The Diamante K hotel’s own website details the prices of its most common rooms: the economical cabin with a shared bathroom is offered at 1,340 pesos per night, the economical cabin at 2,200 pesos, the garden-view cabin with two double beds also at 2,200 pesos, the sea-view cabin with a queen bed at 2,445 pesos, and the sea-view cabin with a king bed at 2,800 pesos.
Regarding the gastronomic offerings, dishes in Palazuelos’ restaurants range between 300 and 500 pesos.

The Diamante K hotel, located in Tulum, continues to operate while the controversy persists between the official version of PROFECO and Roberto Palazuelos’ public defense regarding the true reason for the sanction.
