How to Unlock the GWS?

The GWS (Global Wonder Station) functions for Wonder Trades had been locked in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl since their launch in November 2021, but that’s over… Now the GWS is available to all players worldwide thanks to a March 2022 update.
In this entry of our guide, we will tell you all the details about the GWS in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, what features this online function of the game offers, and how to perform Wonder Trades with other players whenever you want.

How to Unlock the GWS?

The GWS, also called the Global Wonder Station, is a special building in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that you can locate by following these directions:
The GWS is located in Jubilife City, west of the Trainer’s School (on the same street).
Initially, at the launch of these games, the GWS was blocked by an NPC who prevented us from advancing, but since March 16, 2022, this is no longer the case.
Now any player can visit the GWS station without any impediment from the moment they arrive in Jubilife City.

How to Perform Wonder Trades and What Are They?

In the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games, the GWS function was known as the GTS (“Global Trade Station”) and allowed us to trade Pokémon from all over the world with other players. In the remakes Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Global Station now serves exclusively for performing Wonder Trades.
Wonder Trades are trades with other random players from around the world. That is, when you perform a Wonder Trade, you never know what Pokémon the other player will offer you in return, so it’s a surprise until the last moment.
To perform these trades, you can approach the counter in the GWS building and speak to the woman there:

“You can trade any of your Pokémon stored in the PC boxes (except Pokémon obtained through the cloning trick).”

After choosing the Pokémon you want to trade, you must decide on which point on the Globe you want to send the Pokémon.
When you choose a location, it will be marked on the globe of the player to whom you are sending your Pokémon, while on your globe, the point chosen by the other person in their game will be marked.
Each point on the GWS globe can store up to 5 Wonder Trades (there are a total of 630 different points).
After performing a Wonder Trade, you can always consult the globe where the Pokémon you have received are registered and from which parts of the world they come. Additionally, if you wish, you can also withdraw Pokémon from the points on the globe to make space for new Wonder Trades.

Rewards for Wonder Trades

Through the Wonder Trade function, you can earn special rewards for your inventory:

“For every 5 points marked on the GWS Globe, you receive 3 Rare Candies.”
Do You Need Nintendo Switch Online to Use the GWS?

It should be mentioned that the GWS and the Wonder Trade function are only available to players who have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. That is, to carry out Wonder Trades, the game will require an internet connection and a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
In case you do not have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you can still visit the GWS and its surroundings, but you will not be able to perform Wonder Trades at the counter.
