The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has released a new set of rules specifically governing lab-created diamonds. This move aims to provide clear standards and transparency for the growing sector of synthetic diamonds within the jewellery industry.

“The introduction of these rules is a critical step in ensuring responsible practices across all diamond sources, whether mined or created in a laboratory,” said an RJC spokesperson.

The new framework addresses key areas including disclosure, marketing terminology, and supply chain due diligence for lab-created diamonds. It mandates that members must clearly distinguish lab-created diamonds from natural diamonds in all communications to consumers. The rules are part of the RJC’s ongoing efforts to adapt its certification standards to evolving market realities and consumer expectations.
