A bizarre incident has come to light from Nagaur district in Rajasthan, where a pigeon flew away with a gold chain worth one lakh rupees (approximately $1,200) clutched in its beak.

The incident occurred in the Sarafa Bazaar (jewelers’ market) of Deedwana town in Nagaur district. A pigeon entered a jewelry shop where a gold chain was being crafted. It snatched the nearly finished chain and flew off. The shopkeeper and people in the market could only watch helplessly as chaos ensued. Everyone kept their eyes fixed on the pigeon.
The pigeon, carrying the gold chain, landed on the roof of a building in the market. A crowd gathered in front of the building, keeping a close watch on the bird. After considerable effort and pursuit, the pigeon eventually dropped the chain on a rooftop within the market and flew away.

The shopkeeper retrieved the chain safely and breathed a sigh of relief. The entire market was abuzz with talk of the incident. Local traders stated that such an incident of a gold theft by a pigeon was unprecedented.
