As western Rajasthan’s petrochemical sector expands with the Pachpadra Refinery, local industry and academic leaders are calling for a dedicated CIPET center in Jodhpur to develop skilled talent and support regional growth.

The prospects for the expansion of petrochemical and plastic industries in western Rajasthan have accelerated following the Pachpadra Refinery. Amidst this, the demand for establishing a CIPET (Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology) center in Jodhpur is being consistently raised by the industry and academia.
Jodhpur. The demand for opening a new center of the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) in Jodhpur to give new direction to industrial and educational development in western Rajasthan is gaining momentum. Especially after the commencement of the Pachpadra Refinery, the prospects for petrochemical and plastic-based industries will increase rapidly. In such a scenario, the utility of a technical institute like CIPET will become even more crucial.
A new CIPET center for western Rajasthan has been proposed by the state government. Industry organizations, educationists, and social organizations are demanding that this center be established in Jodhpur. Jodhpur has already become a major hub for education, research, and industrial activities, which could provide CIPET with a better ecosystem here.
Currently, several prestigious national institutions such as Ayurved University, Law University, Engineering University, IIT, NIFT, DRDO, CAZRI, and ARI are operational. Due to these institutions, industries in the region are receiving continuous availability of technical collaboration, research facilities, and skilled human resources.
CIPET is a major technical and educational institution under the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. Its objective is to create trained human resources in the plastic and petrochemical sector, promote research, and provide technical assistance to industries.
Currently, the only CIPET center in Rajasthan is operational in the Sitapura industrial area of Jaipur. Now, efforts for a second center have begun. In the budget proposal, Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Gehlot, along with JIA, has also demanded this.
- Technical education and research for the plastic and petrochemical sector
- Provides technical consultation and skilled manpower to industries
- Currently, only one center is operational in Rajasthan, in Jaipur (Sitapura)
- With a lab, quality testing of plastic products will be possible
- A skilled workforce will be prepared from this institute
