Tragic Incident in Vikaspuri

A 25-year-old bus helper died after a fire broke out in a private bus in Delhi’s Vikaspuri area. Police suspect the fire was caused by an incense stick. Police stated on Monday that the deceased, named Sunil, used to sleep inside the bus at night. During this time, he would light incense sticks to repel mosquitoes.

Police Investigation and Fire Details

According to police, the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings point to the incense stick as the cause of the fire. Police believe the fire started from the incense stick and gradually engulfed the entire bus. The fire was so intense that Sunil did not get a chance to escape.

Aftermath and Firefighting Efforts

Sunil’s charred body was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital, where it has been kept for postmortem. Meanwhile, local residents said the fire in the bus was so severe that by the time firefighters arrived, the entire bus was already burnt. After strenuous efforts, the fire was brought under control and Sunil’s body was retrieved.

Eyewitness Account
“Around 12:30 AM on Sunday night, we saw that the bus had caught fire. I called the firefighters. When the firefighters arrived at 12:45 AM, they broke the windows. By then, the entire bus was engulfed in flames. We were told that the person sleeping inside was a cleaner, and then the bus drivers were also called,” said Vijay, a resident of Priya Apartments.
Bus Registration and Ongoing Probe

It is reported that the bus owner is Vijay Kumar (46), and the bus had a Haryana registration number. Currently, police are investigating whether the incense stick was indeed the actual cause of the fire or if it happened due to some technical fault.
