Editor’s Note
This article reports on the ongoing dispersal of Belgian royal heritage, with heirs auctioning items to the highest bidder. A major sale is scheduled for January 23 in Madrid.
Pieces of the Belgian monarchy’s heritage are once again being dispersed. Heirs of the Queen are selling to the highest bidder.
On January 23, in Madrid, the Spanish jeweler Ansorena will auction an important jewel of Queen Fabiola: a platinum and diamond necklace, accompanied by an aquamarine pendant and earrings, which gave this “demi-parure” its name.
Even more surprising is the public sale on the same day of Queen Fabiola’s engagement ring, which King Baudouin personally gave to her. A truly historical piece! The principals are not named and wish to remain discreet. And for good reason: they are heirs of the fifth Queen of the Belgians who, for financial reasons, do not hesitate to scatter a royal heritage of historical character.
