Auction house Bonhams announced the results of its recent fine jewelry sale, which included a magnificent 15.52-carat step-cut diamond single-stone ring by Harry Winston.

The D-color, VVS2 clarity potentially flawless diamond attracted interest from across the globe, finally being sold to a telephone bidder for £1,094,500 ($1.57 million) – as against its pre-sale estimate of £700,000-£900,000 ($1 million to $1.3 million).

A pair of marquise-cut and pear-shaped 25.37-carat earrings was eventually sold, following fierce bidding for £266,500 ($383,000).

Sapphires also proved popular with buyers, including a 7.13-carat unheated cabochon sapphire, set in a ring surrounded by old brilliant-cut diamonds that smashed its £50,000 to £70,000 ($72,000 to $101,000) pre-sale estimate, finally selling for £506,500 ($728,000).

Buyers competed for 129 lots, which achieved a total of £4.98 million ($7.16 million), with 88 percent of lots sold.
