Dubai is set to create the world’s first ‘Gold Street’ within its Gold District, a project aimed at boosting tourism and solidifying the city’s status as a premier destination for the global jewelry trade.
The world’s first ‘Gold Street’ is set to be created in the Dubai Gold District, marking a new step to elevate Dubai’s tourism and jewelry trade infrastructure. This project is expected to play a significant role in attracting international tourists and enhancing Dubai’s global standing.
The Dubai Media Office announced the plan to build the Gold Street on January 27, coinciding with the launch of the Dubai Gold District. According to the plan, this unique street will be entirely constructed from gold, although details regarding its design and scale are currently kept confidential and will be revealed in phases.
The Dubai Gold District is a project that redesigns and rebrands the existing Gold Souk in Deira. It is one of Dubai’s oldest commercial centers, currently housing approximately 1,000 jewelry and precious stone-related retailers.
The area is already home to major industry brands such as Jawhara Jewelry, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Al Romaiyan, and Tanishq Jewelry. Notably, the Joy Alukkas brand has announced plans to open a flagship store spanning approximately 2,230 square meters (24,000 square feet), which is expected to be the brand’s largest in the Middle East region.
Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), stated:
He added that this development project aims to honor Dubai’s heritage and reshape the jewelry industry for a new era based on innovation and sustainable development.
According to data from the Dubai Media Office, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) currently ranks second in the world for gold trading volume. From 2024 to 2025, the UAE’s gold exports are expected to reach $53.41 billion. The creation of this unique Gold District is part of a strategy to diversify the tourism and retail ecosystem, aiming to make Dubai one of the world’s most livable and visited cities.
