Support of 110,000 Essential Packaging Containers for Delivery Services
Promoting Coexistence and Digital Transformation for Small Businesses in Traditional Markets

[Seoul=Newspim] Reporter Lee Seong-hwa = Coupang and Coupang Eats Service (CES) announced on the 13th that they will provide approximately 110,000 eco-friendly packaging containers to Jinju Central Market in Gyeongsangnam-do to revitalize the traditional market.

This support was prepared to enhance the online sales competitiveness of traditional market merchants, alleviate the burden of packaging container costs, and provide practical help for digital transformation. Jinju Central Market is a traditional market originating from the Jinju Commercial Office in 1884 and is considered a representative commercial hub in the Jinju region.
Coupang and CES proactively supported the eco-friendly packaging containers needed in the initial preparation stage so that traditional market merchants could smoothly transition to online sales. This allows merchants to secure packaging containers that can be immediately used for delivery services and other purposes, equipping them with the necessary conditions to prepare for online sales. Coupang and CES also plan to provide certification stickers to stores practicing eco-friendly packaging to promote the spread of eco-friendly culture within the market.
This support is a follow-up measure to the coexistence agreement for traditional markets signed with the National Federation of Merchants last year. The two companies have been preparing an online sales capacity enhancement program for Jinju Central Market merchants since last month and plan to conduct step-by-step training for merchants. This program includes online sales strategy consulting such as store entry preparation training and support for professional photography of menus and products.

“Coupang Eats’ support of eco-friendly packaging containers is a great strength to the merchants of Jinju Central Market and is providing practical help in preparing for online sales,” said Kim Dong-guk, Chairman of the Jinju Central Market Merchants Association. “With the addition of online sales strategy consulting, we expect traditional market stores to gain more vitality through digital transformation.”
“For traditional markets to continue growing in the digital era, securing online competitiveness is essential,” said Kim Myeong-gyu, CEO of Coupang Eats Service. “We will expand coexistence programs that provide practical help to merchants and contribute to revitalizing the local economy.”
