Gas Supply in the Niamey Region: Ministry of Commerce Intends to Sanction Non-Compliant Filling Centers

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Directorate of Quality, Metrology, and Consumer Protection, has initiated a control and awareness-raising campaign targeting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) filling centers in the Niamey region. This operation, which began on Monday, February 10, 2026, aims to ensure compliance with technical and safety standards at these facilities.

Ensuring Safety and Fairness

The campaign’s objective is twofold: to protect consumers from potential dangers associated with non-compliant equipment and to ensure fair competition among economic operators. Inspectors are verifying the conformity of scales, the integrity of gas cylinders, and the overall safety conditions of the sites.

Official Statement
“The Ministry will not hesitate to apply sanctions, including temporary or permanent closure, against any center that fails to meet the required standards. Our priority is the safety of citizens and the proper functioning of the market,” stated a senior official from the Directorate.

The operation is expected to continue for several days and may be extended to other regions of the country.
