Only five players in the entire Segunda División surpass his goal-scoring figures in these six months of the championship.
The first month of the year is a turbulent period for most football teams. The post-holiday slump is especially heavy for all those clubs that want to finalize their squad and have to wait until February to know which group they have left to fight for the remainder of the season. All this, with the fear of low release clauses and offers from financially powerful entities for vital players.
However, for many other teams, this transfer period is an opportunity to try to rectify squad planning errors made in the summer by going out to sign reinforcements. In these cases, the areas that undergo the most modifications are the defensive line and, especially, the attack. In this sense, many teams, especially in Segunda División, experience a lack of goals at this stage of the season that has forced them to scour the market in search of an offensive reference.
This is where one footballer in particular, Adrián Fuentes, positions himself as a genuine pearl. The former Tarazona striker from the last campaign, with record scoring figures, is currently one of Córdoba FC’s biggest arguments for being just one point away from the playoff in its second year in the silver category.
The former SD Tarazona player signed for the Andalusian team this past summer after being one of the top scorers in Primera Federación. With 16 goals, the Madrid-born player was the second top scorer in Group 2 of the category, surpassed only by Etta Eyong who scored 19 for Villarreal B and who is playing this season for Levante, as well as by Real Madrid forward Gonzalo García in Group 1 of Primera RFEF.
As soon as the year began and with the winter transfer window just opened, Córdoba already received an offer for ‘Adri’ Fuentes from a Cypriot club. In fact, rumors raised the offered figure to 2 million euros, a considerably high price for a player newly arrived in the category. However, the club itself came out to deny that the amount offered for the forward was that high and firmly closed the door to any type of negotiation for a player they already consider indispensable.
