Adani Power announced on Tuesday that its subsidiary, Moxi Power Generation Limited, has received a Letter of Award from the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited for the supply of 558 MW (net) of power for a period of five years. This agreement is seen as a significant step towards providing additional and reliable power to consumers in the state.

Impact and Plant Details

According to the company, this supply will strengthen Tamil Nadu’s power system, improve grid stability, and help ensure uninterrupted power supply to households, commercial establishments, and industries. Moxi Power Generation Limited operates a 1,200 MW (2 x 600 MW) power plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. In a highly competitive bidding process, the company secured its position as the lowest bidder by offering a rate of Rs 5.91 per unit. Power supply is expected to commence from April 1, 2026. Adani Power is the country’s largest private sector power producer, with a total generation capacity of 18.15 GW.

Long-Term Strategy and Capacity

The company stated that power supply agreements are now in place for both units of the plant, and over 95% of its total operational capacity is secured under medium to long-term contracts. This will provide the company with long-term revenue visibility and reduce risk from short-term market volatility. In the coming years, the company aims to secure nearly 100% power purchase agreements for all its operational and under-construction projects. With power secured at a competitive rate, consumers are likely to receive affordable and reliable energy in the coming years. Adani Power’s total installed thermal power capacity is 18,110 MW, spread across 12 plants located in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, it operates a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat.

Financial Performance

The company reported a 5.3% increase in its pre-tax profit for the third quarter of FY 2026. The pre-tax profit for Q3 stood at Rs 2,800 crore, compared to Rs 2,659 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year. This growth was primarily driven by reduced finance costs and stable operational performance.
