Editor’s Note
This article highlights the critical supply chain challenges that emerge during peak consumer periods like the Lunar New Year. It underscores the necessity for proactive management to mitigate risks—from price volatility to counterfeit goods—ensuring market stability and protecting consumer rights.
Every Lunar New Year, the market reaches its peak with a massive surge in consumer demand for food and essential goods. Alongside this intense purchasing power, the market also faces numerous risks such as speculation, hoarding, localized price hikes, smuggling, and the sale of counterfeit and substandard goods, especially in the e-commerce sector. If these factors are not strictly controlled, they can create an imbalance between supply and demand, directly impacting consumer rights and disrupting market order during the peak demand period at year’s end.
To ensure market stability during the 2026 Lunar New Year of the Horse, the Department of Industry and Trade of Tay Ninh province has advised the Provincial People’s Committee to issue Directive No. 187/CT-UBND, instructing the strengthening of measures to ensure a joyful, healthy, safe, and economical Lunar New Year celebration in 2026 and to develop a plan for its implementation across the province.
Accordingly, the Tay Ninh Department of Industry and Trade has directed businesses and distribution systems to coordinate in planning the stockpiling and supply of essential goods for Tet (Lunar New Year). Simultaneously, they are actively organizing activities related to production, storage, expansion of retail networks, market stabilization programs, promotions to stimulate consumer demand, and meeting year-end shopping needs.

The market management force of Tay Ninh province is intensifying market inspection and supervision during the year-end period.
Additionally, the Department has requested units to closely monitor market activities and promptly adjust the supply of goods if fluctuations in supply, demand, and prices occur. If the price of goods increases by 15% or more for three consecutive days, it is mandatory to submit a report for monitoring and action; a contact person must be on duty during the Tet holidays.
Speaking to a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Chau Thanh Long, Deputy Director of the Tay Ninh Department of Industry and Trade, shared the above information.
To manage the area actively and effectively, from the end of December 2025, the Tay Ninh Department of Industry and Trade has directed the Market Management Sub-Department to implement an intensive plan to inspect and control the market according to its scope, jurisdiction, and functional area, and to deal with smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods. This plan mandates the prevention of the production and trade of counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, smuggled goods, and goods that infringe on intellectual property rights.
The market management forces have focused on inspecting and strictly dealing with violations related to speculation, hoarding, fraudulent measurement and quality, counterfeit goods, etc.
Specifically, the market management forces have focused on inspecting and strictly dealing with violations related to speculation, hoarding, fraudulent measurement and quality, counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, and goods that do not meet food safety standards, especially regarding essential goods managed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Within one month of implementing a comprehensive plan for market inspection and control before the Lunar New Year, the market management force of Tay Ninh province conducted 32 inspections, detected, and handled 29 violations. Major violations included: trading in smuggled goods; trading in goods of unknown origin; trading in counterfeit goods; failing to notify the competent state management agency about e-commerce websites before selling goods to consumers… Concurrently, a total administrative fine of 325.2 million VND was imposed; the value of the infringing goods was 496.6 million VND (jewelry, food, cosmetics, clothing, fertilizer, phone accessories, etc.).
In addition to performing their duties, the market management force coordinated with functional forces of the province and local bodies to inspect and control 34 markets, where no violations were found.
Mr. Chau Thanh Long informed.
According to Chau Thanh Long, Deputy Director of the Tay Ninh Department of Industry and Trade, alongside traditional inspections, the monitoring of online business activities, e-commerce platforms, and social networks has also been intensified. Under this, authorities have increased inspections of online sales activities on e-commerce platforms, websites, and social networks like Facebook and TikTok. Simultaneously, they are checking product quality, national technical standards and regulations, and publishing product quality and food safety standards.
