Editor’s Note
This article explores how a historic Japanese jeweler is bridging traditional poetic forms like tanka with modern expressions of empathy and connection, highlighting the enduring power of words in life’s most meaningful moments.

Ginza Diamond Shiraishi (Operated by: NEW ART Co., Ltd., Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Eri Hamano), as Japan’s first* bridal jewelry specialty store, has consistently emphasized the importance of conveying one’s own feelings in proposals, accompanying numerous “new beginnings for couples.” The power of conveying through “words” is immense. “Tanka” poetry condenses scenes and emotions into a limited number of words, to be savored together with others. We empathize with and sponsor this program that speaks of feelings through words.
The program will collaborate with the tanka app “57577” to solicit tanka poems from viewers. From the submitted works, the performers will select several poems that caught their attention and discuss the scenes that emerge from them. Talk videos not fully covered in the program will be released on YouTube.
