【Catalonia, S】Majoral Obtains RJC Certification

Editor’s Note

Majoral has earned certification from the Responsible Jewelry Council, joining a select group of Catalan jewelers committed to verified ethical and sustainable practices. This adherence underscores the growing industry emphasis on supply chain integrity and consumer trust.

Majoral Joins the Responsible Jewelry Council

With this certification, Majoral becomes one of the six Catalan jewelry companies to achieve this good practices certificate.

Majoral has adhered to the code of good practices of the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC), after passing the supervision that establishes sustainability standards for the jewelry industry. Founded in 2005, the RJC sets global standards for the jewelry and watch industry and promotes standards that underpin people’s trust in the global supply chain.

A Long-Standing Commitment to Responsible Practices

Majoral has always been strongly linked to nature, the source of inspiration for the firm, and for years has been committed to applying responsible practices in jewelry; practices that encompass everything from the acquisition of fine materials to the use of ethical and sustainable supplies, as well as energy suppliers that guarantee clean energy production. In fact, since 2014, Majoral has consumed and distributed Fairmined certified gold, which guarantees that the precious metal comes from small-scale artisanal mines where dignified and safe workplaces are generated and gold extraction is carried out following environmentally responsible practices. In 2018, Majoral introduced diamonds with double certification, obtained from mines that offer traceability guarantees and are audited by external bodies. Since 2020, Majoral has also introduced untreated natural-color sapphires, extracted from small-scale mines that are respectful of their environment.

A Further Step in Sustainability Commitment

Now, Majoral takes a further step in its commitment to sustainability and responsible jewelry by joining the code of good practices of the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC), the leading organization in establishing sustainability standards for the jewelry and watch industry. With this code, Majoral guarantees responsible business conduct in its policies and management systems. Good practices and sustainability remain a pending task for the jewelry and watch sector, even though in recent years it has gained significant importance. Consumer behavior has also undergone a change, increasingly focused on conscious purchasing, wanting to know where what they are buying comes from. Therefore, it is not surprising that more and more brands and companies in the sector are committed to carrying this out.

Implementing Internal Procedures for Compliance

In this way, Majoral applies internal procedures to ensure compliance with the RJC’s international standards. These standards certify that all suppliers of the Catalan company work in conflict- or violence-free zones; the geographical origin of diamonds, gold, and metals is also guaranteed, as well as the practices used to obtain them. As a consequence, Majoral only uses recycled gold or gold extracted from artisanal mines.

A Commitment to Transparency and KYC Principles

With this, the company also wants to make a commitment to transparency, focusing on turning its members into assets that, through their management, contribute to the fight against money laundering, one of the historical challenges of the jewelry industry; to incentivize companies in the jewelry sector to identify all their suppliers, requesting relevant documentation and thoroughly evaluating their high-risk partners. Thus, Majoral has developed an internal procedure to apply the principles of KYC (Know Your Counterpart) that identifies and verifies the identities of its clients and business partners.

A Leader Among Catalan Jewelers

Furthermore, with this certification, Majoral becomes one of the six Catalan jewelry companies to achieve this good practices certificate.
